DAY 65 : September 10/22 Saturday. Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia (day trip into Halifax)

We woke up and could hear a "Dark Sabre" waving around outside the RV window. Liam was eager to have his new buddies up and out to play! Jonathan and I went inside to have coffee with Carolyn and Justin. We all had showers and I got some laundry through (sooooo grateful for any and all laundry facilities!). Kiddos all played while Jonathan and I looked online and booked an Escape Room in Halifax, which was still on Oliver's bucket list. Booked the Egyptian room at Trapped Halifax.

12noon, we were on the road to Halifax and parked at the Atlantic Superstore and hustled up the road to Trapped Halifax. The Escape Room was super cool. We had one hour to solve the puzzle and get through three rooms using clues. We did SO well! it was our first time in an escape room... we got right to the last clue and needed a hint, but time ran out while we were figuring the hint out. Super fun, and I do say we worked together really well. Highly recommend to anyone in Halifax to try it out... well run.

Walked back to the rig, grabbed our little backpack for the day and had a walk around the waterfront in Halifax. The kids were pretty tired after a very late night but managed to walk around without toooo much complaining, lol. We lured them with a destination of the Dollarama to buy elastic bands for Amelia's hair and get some rolls of tape to supplement the tape used in the cardboard creations last night. We grabbed a subway sandwich in the mall where the Dollarama was... the kids ordered their first sub sandwich all by themselves. They did very well and found it quite novel that you could tell the person whatever you wanted to add and they'd make it for you right there! :)

Kids were getting weary of all the walking, but had a bit of energy left so we marched them up to the Citadel to check it out before we made our way back to the RV. Neat view of the city from up there. Oliver ran back down the steep grass hill and managed not to fall down until the very bottom. We walked by cool old brownstone buildings, neat churches, and old old cemeteries. Once back at the RV we googled where Vagner's brother lived (10min drive) so we could pick up Amelia's well-travelled birthday card from her friend, Citta!

View from the Citadel

Drove to Kane Place and parked temporarily so Jonathan and Meems could hop out and knock on Heather and Edson's door to retrieve her Birthday card that got forwarded there from Gatineau (we had missed the mail there by mere hours!). Edson was on the phone with Vagner! Jonathan chatted with Heather at the door step, and I had poked my head out of the RV to wave across the road. I saw a couple walk over towards the RV from the next street up and I figured we might be getting asked to not park here. Turned out to be a very friendly couple who also had a small campervan and were curious to say hi and learn about the rig! Steve and Sandra were lovely... introduced themselves and Steve said he couldn't walk by a rig without asking about it! We had a nice chat about camping, etc.

After a lovely little meeting at the Castilho's, we drove back to the Doucet's place in Upper Tantallon to find that our friends had gone out and bought seven (!!) lobsters and some fresh oysters for a proper Nova Scotia feast. Wowzers!! Feeling treated like royalty this evening. Ollie steered clear of looking at the lobsters before and after cooking. Amelia was more intruiged and Izzy brought her upstairs to the kitchen to peek in the paperbag to see the live lobsters inside and pick one up. Amelia seemed very curious and not at all disturbed that these guys were going to be cooked and eaten with the hour! The adults all enjoyed a most delicious dinner... special treat to have a proper lobster feast with lessons from Justin on how to take them apart and eat them.

Ehtan had taken Oliver under his wing with all things mountain bike! They cleaned his bike up and got it looking spic n' span! He also showed him a fun mountain bike jump to do on their driveway. Both kids in their element. Amelia and Izzy spent a good portion of time downstairs on the treadmill earning badges up the ying-yang and burning calories! super funny. They were VERY proud of their co-operative achievements.

* oh and we looked up the Bluenose II to see if it would be in Lunenburg tomorrow and it turns out it's in transition to Halifax for tomorrow! doh! just missed it.
