DAY 66 : September 11/22 Sunday. Upper Tantallon, NS to Truro, NS (day trip to Peggy's Cove!)

Chill morning as the Doucet and Tenta kids hung out and watched some shows. Then Jonathan, Justin and Ethan, Oliver and Izzie drove with the kids' mountain bikes in the truck up to an "off-road" so Ethan could show Ollie some cool dirt jumps and biking fun. Amelia and I stayed back and tidied up the RV.

Around 11:45am both families left together for Peggy's Cove! Amelia and Isabel rode in the RV with us, and Ollie rode in the truck with the Doucet boys. Jonathan ended up parking the rig farther up the road into Peggy's cove and riding his bike down to meet us since the parking was busy. Peggy's Cove was super cute... touristy, but not as tourist trap-py as I anticipated... for example, I could not find a store with Peggy's Cove postcards or stickers! Ha! We looked around the lighthouse and climbed the rocks - avoiding the Black Rocks where people have been swept off of in years past.

After a lovely wander and soaking up the lighthouse/harbour vibe, everyone was a bit hungry so we decided to hit up Recardo's Pizza just outside of town. A favourite of the Doucet family (Ethan!). I rode in the truck with Carolyn and Meems and Izzy. We hoarded the boys and menfolk into the RV. Such a lovely civilized ride in the truck with just the ladies, haha. And it was fun for me to see the Navion driving along and to get a photo of it. I'm always IN it!  We giggled because Jonathan put his signal light on and forgot to turn it off. It's a running joke with us and I got to see it in action from afar.

At Recardo's pizza we all loaded up on yummy pizza and burgers, etc. While we were eating, a guy walked over and said, "Hi! I'm from BC too!"  He was from Burnaby! Kinda fun... had a nice little exchange about the big drive.

After filling our bellies, we hopped back in the vehicles and drove about 1/2 hour or so to Chester Basin where our friend and neighbour, Josh, has family property. We had hoped that Josh might have been out this way visiting his family at the cottage, but it didn't work out. It was nice to check out his special cottage and property and send him a hello from afar! The tide was out and the kids were happy to swim off the dock and around to the beach, snorkel for crabs, collect beach glass and dig in the sand and rocks. We met Sue and James, (Sue and Josh are first cousins once removed) and had a nice visit with them and chats about the area and Halifax.

by 6:30pm it was getting time to wrap out our Doucet/Tenta afternoon and hit the road again. Doucet's had dinner to get back for and prepare for Monday back to work and school. We needed to hit the road and make our way up towards Truro to start out Bay of Fundy Adventures. We had had such nice visits and it was tough to say goodbye. Our kids were definitely NOT ready to say goodbye to one another and started chanting, "One more night!" over and over. So great that they had hit it off so well that they wanted to spend more time together. Meems was quite mad about it all until I explained that tomorrow was Monday and they had to go back to school and it wouldn't be like a weekend late night and hang out in the morning. We made our way down the tight wooded drive back out to the road and waved off our final goodbyes (or so we thought, lol).

Hopped back onto the Hwy 103 and it actually took us right into Upper Tantallon again where we pulled over at the PetroCan to get diesel. This was the same place as the Sobey's we went to when we arrived here to go to Justin and Carolyn's place. It was kind of funny that we were merely 10-15min from their house at the bottom of their neighbourhood road. We didn't tell the kids how close we were. We were filling up and I got a text from Carolyn saying, "Jonathan's shoes are here".   Ha! fortuitous timing. I had already commented yesterday about how we have a habit of leaving stuff in people's house (right Nick-D?). Carolyn saved us the chaos of driving up and having our kids mutiny against us and infiltrating their house again. She and Ethan drove down to the parking lot and delivered Jonathan's runners for us before going to the Sobey's. WHEW!!!!

After that we were on the highway again pointed towards Truro. We reached the Tidal Bore Discover Centre in the dark. We had looked up on I-Overlander and apparently we could stay the night, so we pulled over in the back of the gravel lot and the kids got out their headlamps to play on the epic playground in the dark. The moon was almost full and beautiful and orange and super clear. Very neat.
