Jonathan and I woke up, went into Georgina's for coffee, and then got to work on cutting our new mattress to fit the back bed. Armed with a butcher knife, we had the picnic blanket laid out on the visitors parking, along with some plastic, and started by cutting about 2" off the width. Curious neighbours (it's a private, but non-gated community of unofficial 55+) would walk by and chat. Super friendly, and one couple offered their electric carving knife. We tried to remember what house number they were, as they said they'd put it on their porch and we could just return it later, but we failed to find the right house. In doing so, we chatted with Georgina's neighbour, Marilyn and she offered hers!
Got the mattress cut to fit, then made a call to Art Haven again to see if the kids' ceramics were finished being fired (Amelia and Ollie were VERY excited to see them completed and hoped to bring them with us). Unfortunately they wouldn't be ready for removing from the kiln until later this evening so we left it all in Grandma T's capable hands for pick up, video'ing to send us, and then packing up safely for the trip back to Vancouver on Tuesday. We'd have to settle for the virtual tour of them and wait until December to actually see them in person.
We had our hugs and goodbyes in front of Georgina's place and with 109491km on the odometer, we were headed into Westboro to check out a sports store for sunglasses for Jonathan (he's looking for Smith Ruckus that he had his eyes on in Trail and regretted not buying at the time). No luck there (they had a pair that were okay, but they were demos and would not clean up properly so he declined). Kids and I went to superstore while he shopped, and we got groceries and supplies for the next leg of the trip and finally left there around 2:30pm.
It was a couple of hours to Montreal, and we had booked two nights at the KOA Montreal South campground. After the toll bridge, we zipped off the highway to the Information/Tourism Centre in Rigaud QC for some city maps and information. The lady there was super helpful and had lots of great maps and booklets for us to plan our days in Montreal and Quebec City.
When we reached the KOA in La Prairie, it was a lovely set up with a nice swimming pool, great laundry facilities/showers, mini golf, etc. We pulled up into Site B8 ($67/night) and jumped in the pool for a little swim. Chilly but lovely! Then feasted on a delicious dinner of veggie sausages, potatoes/corn and broccoli. Jonathan and I had Caesars to wind down after the long drive in traffic. yum.
The rest of the evening was quiet, with some playground time followed by a fire with s'mores on chocolate chip cookies (no Celebrations left) and then a nice Poi Ball light show by the kiddos.
our site! water and electrical included. = we could use the A/C :) so humid
Caesars! The drink of choice this week... complete with spicy beans!
Ollie carved some tiny people from twigs and Amelia worked on painting features on them.
the very nice, quite chilly pool. perfect for refreshing after humid drives/days.
