DAY 28 : August 3/22 Wednesday. Marathon, ON to Wawa, ON

Well, despite the massive wind storm and the train keeping us awake almost all night, we were able to get some sleep in the morning hours. By 10am we were surfacing and I had looked online at places in Wawa and booked the Wawa RV Campground online. After an unsettling night in the good ol' Canadian Tire parking lot, it was nice to know we had a place to stay the night tonight - and it had a pool and laundry and showers!

Ollie and Jonathan had a nice morning mosey through Canadian Tire while I tidied up inside the rig and Amelia played lego on the top bunk. It wasn't until around noon that we pulled out and got back on the Hwy 17 east and drove into the misty morning towards Marathon with a starting odometer reading of 107190km.

At 1:15pm we stopped in White River at the tourist information site where a large statue of Winnie-the-Pooh stood beside a playground. The kids were excited that the playground was the same one from their school back home. Jonathan checked out the tourist info and came back with some good maps. We snapped a pic with Winnie (White River ON was the home of the little bear cub named Winnie who was the inspiration for Milne's Winnie the Pooh). We got some onion rings and fries at the A&W across the path and then we were back in the rig to look around the town some more before finding our campground.

We saw the giant goose statue (didn't stop for a photo op, but did take a pic as we drove by). There were two other giant geese further into town, along with a full size taxidermied Moose on the porch of the General Store. Stopped in at the PetroCan for diesel (107378km) and then drove to the Wawa RV Campground for about 3:30pm.

Wawa campground had a neat playground with a dodgy slide (ask Jonathan), a fun trampoline (ask Ollie), a fun pool (ask Mimi) and great showers & laundry facilities (ask Kathy). We got settled and then went for a shower and a swim. We had the pool to ourselves here and the kids enjoyed their snorkel masks and dive rings. The pool was super deep and dropped off quite quickly, so it wasn't ideal for Amelia and we stuck close to the shallow end for our swimming.

Our rig was plugged in, so Jonathan decided to test out our microwave/convection oven and cook a pizza we had bought and put in the freezer. We had gone and walked to the playground and found some cool broken birch branches that they dragged back to carve and make walking staffs. Those two sat at the picnic bench carving and whittling away. I worked on catching up with photos/blog stuff and Amelia played lego some more.

This night, Jonathan and I made some serious plans for the coming week... booking the KOA for tomorrow night in Sault Ste Marie, along with a ferry from Manitou Island to Tobermory, planned a stay in the driveway of our new RV friends, Kim and Conroy, in Stratford, and then a KOA in Niagara Falls with a boat tour the next day at the falls. This was the most planning we've done for awhile.

Tonight the firepit was brought out for a quick little marshmallow roast before bed. xo

<as I am typing this in using the magical wifi from the KOA we are staying at on Aug 4, a little green beetle we have named "Star of the Show" keeps flying over and landing on my screen despite Jonathan's best efforts to relocate him. he's kind of been our buddy the past few days>

Amelia has been enjoying quiet time building lego creations up in their bunk. The only bummer is that she has to pack them up in the bin each night before bed.
