9:15am start with the usual coffee and books! Amelia got up but Oliver snoozed soundly until almost 10:39am! I took my book and coffee to Al and Lisa's site so I could sit in a chair (Jay had first dibs on the hammock). Al showed me how to use his fero rod to light a fire from a tinder bundle. Pretty cool. Ollie got into that later in the day. That morning Al said he was standing in their site and deer snuck up behind him right into their site and scared the pants off him. I saw a sweet little hummingbird zinging around while I enjoyed my coffee. Lisa went and saved a spot for their friends Werner and Louise who came up last night but weren't able to nab a site.
At 12:30pm Al took Jonathan and Ollie and I up the road a few minutes in the truck to shoot pellet guns and bows. Found a perfect semi-shady spot to set up the targets for archery and our pop can for the pellet guns. Ollie was super interested in both, especially the pellet gun. We all got pretty good at making that little pop can dance. 😉 Amelia walked the lake trail hike with Aunty Lisa and Louise and Werner. They saw all kinds of cool stuff including some mysterious black slimy stuff that we had to check out again another time.
The afternoon was spent at the campsite beach again enjoying the clear beautiful cool mountain lake water. Ollie snorkelled and Amelia went on an EPIC paddle board tour of the entire lake with Aunty Lisa. They explored every nook and cranny of the shoreline and took sampling of various muds and slimes. The sussed out the cliff jumping spot from below and made their way around the whole lake. They had a blast and were gone longer than we expected. Ollie got a little worried and decided it was a good idea to go get the binoculars to scope out if the tiny figures across the lake might be them. Jonathan had floated out quite far across the lake to see if he could see them as well. All was good! they were just having a slow and enjoyable time together xo. Around the time they paddled back within site, we saw a mama merganser with two fluffy headed little babies in tow... sooooo cute!!!!
Al and Jonathan planned to go fishing again in the evening with Werner and their friend Glen. Etd was 6:30pm so Jonathan very quickly cooked up the trout and rice, gobbled it down and and got his fishing gear ready within half an hour and they were off. The kids hung out with Lisa and Louise while I did dishes and cleaned up. That's when Ollie came running back to our site to show me the deer wandering past our campsite. I walked back with him and we watched over Juno, Glen's little black floof dog, with Lisa and Louise and played Sleeping Queens. Things got a little heated between two tired kiddos and Lisa announced "Ollie! you gotta walk the dog!" 😆 and she took Oliver for a lap around the campsites while I took Amelia back to our RV to dry her tears.
The menfolk came back with fishing success stories. Jonathan had come back earlier with Glen, and Werner and Alan were not too far behind. Had a nice fire and more s'mores and drinks at Al and Lisa's site with their friends joining us. After our "name KISS songs..., name DuranDuran songs, etc" sing-along outbursts, we realized it was after 11pm and quiet time was already half an hour in. Two tired kiddos again who konked out straight away.
archery practice!
Oliver was quite fascinated with the Pellet gun and got good at loading the pistol.
our target! take THAT!!
sharp shooter jonathan
you can barely see them, but the little blobs on the left are the Mergansers,
and the blue blob is Jonathan in the floatie 😂
Trout for second dinner! mmmmmmmmm.
When I was washing dishes, Oliver came running from the other site to ours and called me out of the RV in time to see a white tailed deer sauntering by right beside our site in the woods. She had already walked past their site and he followed it over to show me. A few minutes later when I went to put the garbage in the bins, I was surprised to see her munching away on greenery right behind the bin.
