DAY 2 : JULY 8/22 friday Rock Creek to Fruitvale

Our morning started with the buzzing of a mosquito in Ollie and my ears at 6:30am. I half heartedly tried to hunt it down for about an hour and gave up. I was first to go check out the lovely clean, FREE showers over at the shower block while kiddos and Jonathan rustled awake. Jonathan was excited to make use of the new inverter he installed and use our blender for smoothies! success!!

O&A and I went to scout out the river walk... Amelia ahead on her bike and Ollie and I walking behind. Once we reached the river (it was high and fast), we walked along the edge in search of the old Mine entrance we had found the last time we visited. By the time we made it to where the river bent around the campground, we realized it must be in the opposite direction! Saw cool birds and wildflowers along the way. We had left a walkie-talkie back in the rig for when Jonathan got back from his shower, and we surprised him with a "Come in Big Daddy" over the airwaves as he was shaving.

Short pack up time because we didn't have chairs out last night, or a fire. We left Kettle River around 10:20am and got back onto Hwy #3 for Castlegar. Kids saw some deer on the way.

After an hour driving, we stopped in Grand Forks for diesel at the Mobil ($2.039/L) $155

Followed little signs for Pascale's Bakery and hit the jack pot for DELICIOUS baked goodies. Everything looked amazing. We chose cinnamon knots, spanikopita and chocolate brownies to eat on their little patio. Then Jonathan went back in for another box of their best goodies to take to Uncle Ted and Aunty Linda's house.

Hit up the free sani-dump before getting back on the road around noon and getting to Castlegar. It's really been helpful for Amelia to have the google maps set so she can see how long it will take to get to our destinations.

Had a super visit with Ted and Linda, and their adorable cats. Kids were enamoured with the cows in the back field. They were very excited that the cows came right up to the fence to say hi. When I went back to take photos, the cows had wandered back.

Rolled out of Castlegar around 3pm and got to Fruitvale with a warm reception by Gus the retriever, Heather and Brad. Got the rig parked in the sweet trailer parking, and immediately got the kids into the Larson's indoor pool for a swim while the adults started on the beverages. While O and A were getting ready for the pool, Jonathan and Heather spotted a huge black bear walking down the middle of their road. By the time we could call the kids over to look through the window, it wandered down the bank into the trees. Relaxing evening around the firetable with good food, yummy drinks and nice company. xo Ollie and Ben had a game of cornhole against Jonathan and Amelia. Tucked the kids into a movie at Heather and Brads around 9:30pm and had a late "into bed" after midnight! Both kids chose to snuggle into Ally's vacant bed in the basement.

First smoothie made off the inverter!!

Morning Kettle River walk looking for the Mine opening we saw last time we were in this campground.
