DAY 99 : October 14/22. Friday. Edisto Beach, SC to Savannah, Georgia!

Beautiful and sunny out this morning at Edisto Beach! Feels like a tropical beach vacation here. Love it. Jonathan made pancakes for breakfast and he and I refilled out US phone card plans as they were expiring tomorrow. We hit up the beach again for another attempt at combing for shark teeth. No shark teeth to be discovered, except in the mouth of an actual live shark that a fisherman pulled in on his line while we were down there!

On the way out we parked and went to the camp store to choose sticker (pirate, edisto beach), then dumped the sani. By 11:45am we were leaving the grounds and had found a recycling depot in Edisto where we could off-load the bin of recycling we had been accumulating. Not a ton of easy recycling here in the south!

Took Hwy 95 and by 1:40pm we were in GEORGIA!!!  pulled into the Welcome Centre... snapped a pic with Forest Gump on his bench in the main lobby.  Kids got a kick out of pretending to drive the trolley. Got some information about the area and some tourism books.

Gorgeous day... 26c and blue skies... we drove along the I-95 to Hwy 204 in order to take the Harry Truman Parkway to our Harvest Host -- a comment on their site mentioned low hanging trees and this was the best route to get there to avoid potential disasters. 2:30pm We stopped and shopped at the Walmart on the way. Kids love scanning all the items through the self-check out. They are getting quite good at it! We bought a boogie board for $15 as an impromptu purchase.

Got to our Harvest Host - Coach's Corner Sports Bar in Savannah, Georgia before 4pm and parked in the back corner of the gravel parking lot by two other trailers. I messaged John to let him know we had arrived and where we parked and in seconds he came out the back door to welcome us. Jonathan was looking at the RV and figuring out some stuff with the brakes and new air filters, so the kids and I walked over to meet John. He was an older middle aged guy, with a bright red "Braves" patterned hawaiian style shirt and a freshly shaved blond mohawk and tinted aviator glasses. Quite the guy! He was super chatty and friendly with the kids and he gave us a sneak peek tour of his "TajMahal Tee-Pee"... a monstrosity of scaffolding tagged onto the outside of his sports bar in the parking lot... you had to climb up some narrow steps to the top platform which revealed his pride and joy... two huge couches and three massive big screen tvs... a teepee with comfy pillows and a guitar, even a hot tub and an exercise bike and a massage chair. All of it jumbled together. It looked like someone's man cave basement lifted up onto a platform with a white tent over the whole thing. He had some buddies up there who were also very friendly and said hi. He tried to explain that he raises money for a charity he started to help out people with financial needs in times of emergencies. He's had the bar for over 30 years. Kids were quite awestruck by all the fun stuff up there, and John's energetic personality. There was a Braves vs Phillies World Series game on this evening (playing in Philly) and he was all geared up for the 4:30pm start time. Only the VIPs were allowed up there, so we were lucky to get a sneak peek.

Meanwhile, Jonathan was making plans to jack up the rig and take the back wheels off to look at the brakes and see if the new brake pads fit. When we got walked back after our little tour, I was Jonathan's assistant mechanic while he muscled the rear wheels off and navigated getting the brake pads out. He successfully got the brake pads out to check them and they were indeed worn... the bad news was that the Autozone gave him the wrong sized pads (turns out they gave him front brake pads, not the rear... curses!). He put it all back together, a bit disheartened but also stayed positive that it would be easier the next time when he has the right pads.

He cleaned up and we walked across the parking lot into the sports bar for our dinner. We had yummy beers and cider (Angry Orchard) and a massive pizza (Amelia also ordered the Coaches Munchies... chips and salsa). Our waitress was super sweet and busting her butt with all the people crowded in the pub to watch the Braves game. Kids could not get over how many tv's there were in the place. Each booth had a tv on the wall at it, and there were several hung from the ceiling and across the top of the bar.

Back at the rig, Jonathan sourced the correct brake pads from a nearby Autozone and decided to bike there (2km away) with fully rigged lights on his bike. He said it was a bit sketchy, but not bad riding there and back. He returned the original purchase and exchanged for correct pads (rear dualies).

Kids and I made a 100-Day banner and cleared the table area in preparation for our celebratory breakfast tomorrow morning for our 100th day on the road! (Oh, and Ollie and Amelia know how to put the slide out, and it's now their job to clear the spaces and put the slide out).

Daddy read Anne of Green Gables in his bestest Marilla voice, and kiddos were fast asleep shortly after.
