First morning in Florida! Sun shining (as expected)... Amelia spent time finishing up the beautiful drawing she did of Oakley that she started last night after Kristina had commissioned her to draw on (if she wanted!). Meems worked very hard on it and it turned out awesome.
Marvin showed up at the rig door with four yogurt/granola/banada parfaits for us! drizzled with St. Augustine honey... very yummy! Amelia enjoyed them the most as she eyed up mine!
Jsy took the kiddos to the pool for a morning swim and Ollie got another game of Pac-Man in before we had to leave later. We all went out and fed the cows and donkey carrots and apples with Marvin and Kristina. The animals were very happy for the snacks.
Kids did some math work with daddy and then we packed up to leave. K and M came over to say goodbye. Kristina absolutely loved the portrait of Oakley and had Amelia sign it. She promised she was going to frame it and put it up in the guest house. (Kristina posted a pic of it on her fb rescue page and Amelia had loads of lovely compliments on it). She gave the kids each a little embroidery thread bracelet with a silver cat paw charm on it as a gift.
We left around 12:30pm and hopped onto the I-95 south through St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. By 1:45pm we stopped for diesel at a FasTrac gas station, then were on the Hwy 4 West and into the 3:30pm traffic in Orlando.
By 5pm we were at a Walmart for supplies and a FOG MACHINE... an exciting purchase for our Halloween effects.
Jonathan had booked us at Bill Fredrickson Park right in the middle of Orlando. Only a 15-20min drive to Universal Studios and only $20 flat for the night. It was a perfect little oasis in the city and great for driving to our big adventure to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure tomorrow. The park was neat and the kids set off on their bikes to take a look around and check out the animals at the petting barn, as well as the playground (which they loved). Having functional walkie-talkies has been awesome on this trip. While they were out exploring, Jonathan and I were online booking our tickets and add-ons for tomorrow's big day out. Our kids are not "disney" peeps, nor are we... but they do like amusement parks and while we were SO close to Universal, we wanted to go check it out. We settled on one big day at one park and got the xpress pass to avoid any lines ups.
Dinner was veggie burgers, and the kids were excited to set up ghosty stuff and try out the fog machine. Tried our best to get an early-ish night to bed in anticipation of an early morning drive to Universal to get in the gates before things opened.
