DAY 49 : August 25/22 Thursday. Mont Ste Anne, Beaupre, QC
Lazy snuggles this morning. Nice to waken to trees and bird songs! It’s been awhile since we’ve been parked amid nature!
Oliver invented a pool noodle tag/fight/defense game using the newly sliced in quarters noodle, and the intact other half. The person who’s “it” gets the longer noodle, and the other two each have the shorter ones. With a head start, the two run away from the It person and if they are close to getting tagged with the big noodle (waist or below) they can defend themselves with their shorter noodle and also try to tag the It person for a 2 second freeze so they can run away. Pretty fun. Exhausting for grown ups, haha.
Jonathan took the kids to ride a green mtn bike trail called Boucle d’Or, which was super cute… had 12 little stations along the trail with various painted rocks. I read, relaxed and typed while they were gone. When they got back, I took the kids for a swim in the cold little lake and they convinced me that it was super fun sliding into the cold water. I wasn’t super keen on getting frozen, but they were too cute not to go along with it. The slide was fun and I finally did get in and went down the slide a handful of times. Jonathan had his turn up at the chalet where the wifi was.
After a rinse at the camp shower near our site, the kiddos and I had a picnic and played Trash Pandas (a gift from our first AirBnB guests of the season!). Jonathan was back and tried to figure out the steps on the RV too see if he could make the contact work for forcing the steps to close up when the rig was started. Embarrassingly, we have left the steps out and driven away on more than one occasion on this trip. Sigh. Then I crawled up onto the top bunk for a nap and the kids and Jonathan schemed some kind of secret creation with the pool noodles and paper.
Around 3:30pm a truck and trailer rolled up… Jonathan and I had discussed calling the office to book a second night here and neither of us had done it. We were in these people’s spot! Oops!!! The kids got to work dragging our chairs and stuff into the spot next-door and Jonathan called the office to request a booking at another site. Luckily the spot across the way D11 was available for the night and we could move right across. It didn’t take long luckily. Eek. Jonathan rode his bike down to the office to pay.
When he got back, he and Oliver went for a little mountain bike ride on Bo-Bi-Ki-Ni - a blue trail that was right from our campground. They added on a red trail called Listere as well and did a couple laps. Meanwhile, Meems and I walked up to the Chalet again and I sat outside blog typing while Amelia made up games on the playground there. When we got back, the boys were back from their bike ride and had chatted with a guy that lives close by but has a trailer here on Mont Ste Anne and lives in it most of the biking season because he loves it and loves the nature. Jonathan got lots of intel about the area, and also some great info about where to go on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence that we planned to visit after chatting about it with Melanie and Vagner. Jonathan took his advice and had booked us two nights at the Paradis Marin in Bergeronnes where we could watch whales right from the campsite.
Amelia was still sad about the fly she swallowed and seemed stuck in her throat. No amount of water drinking or treat eating seemed to make it go away. She was temporarily distracted by the task I gave the kids of sorting out the pantry under the dinette seat. I was going to do it with her and then Ollie was back and he was game for it. I removed the seat top for them and they went straight to work! They did an amazing job of sorting and organizing the pantry food, and compiling a list of canned goods and dried goods that we taped to the inside of the little door.
Jonathan set a propane fire, kids played fight games with pool noodles and I went for a shower. We had ramen (mediocre at best) and tucked into bed.
